Chapter 7

I gulped.

It felt like a lifetime since Vrix had chased me down and raised me to pleasurable highs. The Alpha was just as monstrous and terrifying as I remembered. Almost demonic, black horns rose from between arrowed wolfish ears. Like Rhylan, his face was currently a harmonious mesh between beast and man.

His muscular frame was bare, lightly covered by his short, blood-red fur. His fists curled at his sides, chest heaving with exertion or rage; probably both if he’d just fought his way through Rhylan’s beasts, only to scale a gigantic tree and break in here.

Sharp teeth pierced through his mouth as his lips peeled back in a snarl. Two pronounced fangs gripped my attention, before I returned it to his golden eyes, blazing with rage.

A fake gasp had me glancing towards Rhylan, a clawed hand pressed to his chest. His bone shard crown had reappeared when I wasn’t looking, adding to his imposing height.

“And here I thought wolves couldn’t climb trees. To think I wasted my precious time watching that nature documentary,” the Feline King mocked, sarcasm dripping from his indolent tone.

Vrix snapped his jaws aggressively, his already low growl deepening another octave before his attention switched to devour me instead.

“Oh good, your scruffy mongrel is back with an attitude.” Rhylan eyed the angry wolf with a cocked a hip and a raised a brow. “Come for a rematch, pup?”

Rage contorted Vrix’s animalistic features. “Feline King, I will shred your flesh from your bones and make you watch as I eat pieces of you raw.”

I sucked in a breath, a mix of fear and confusion swirling through me. Would he actually try to eat Rhylan? Was he here to hurt me or help me?

“Such an aggressive doggie.” Rhylan clucked his tongue, tone mocking. “What about all of our cute bonding time from before? You’ve got to learn to play nice if you want to be co-mates to our lovely Shua’than.”

Vrix’s perky ear flicked, his growl rumbling louder before he spoke. “We are not sharing my Bunny. She is mine.” He snapped his jaws at the empty air, teeth clicking aggressively.

The sounds of snarls and hisses far below made an epic background to his threats.

A slow smile spread across the Feline King’s lips. “Well, if she’s all yours, why is she drenched in my seed?”

The Alpha snapped, launching himself in a blur of red.

Rhylan cackled, even as Vrix slammed his lithe frame into the kitchen counter, bending the mad feline backwards. Rhylan’s hand blurred upwards, fist crashing into Vrix’s muzzle hard enough to spin him back a step. The cheeky fae darted aside, coming up behind the wolf to bite his ear.

Vrix snarled in rage at the almost playful nip, rounding on his prey, claws swiping out. The cat dodged aside, running from the kitchen with a brilliant grin. Hot on his heels, Vrix leapt after him, narrowly missing another hit.

I watched, stunned, my heart pounding in my chest as Vrix continued to chase Rhylan around the open-plan room. Chairs tumbled aside as the pair fought, almost knocking over the brazier heating the room.
